Supporting independent and contemporary artists to sustain their voice, their creativity, and their sense of self within today’s music industry.
Vocal & Artistic Consultancy for Independent & Contemporary Artists
Context
Alongside my own creative practice as a composer and vocal arranger, I bring over three decades of vocational experience working with artists across the contemporary music industry.
This consultancy supports artists at pivotal points in their creative and professional development — moments where vocal reliability, artistic clarity, and long-term sustainability are essential. These are often periods of growth, transition, or increased visibility, where expectations intensify and existing support structures may no longer be sufficient.
Many contemporary artists now operate independently or within fluid team structures, often without the long-term artistic, vocal, and personal support that once existed. This work exists in direct response to that reality.
How it works
This work begins from a shared understanding: you as the artist are not separate from your voice — you are the instrument.
As a contemporary artist, you are likely carrying far more than the technical demands of performance alone. Alongside the ongoing cycles of songwriting, rehearsal, recording, performance, and touring, there may also be pressure to maintain visibility and momentum — even when that outward focus begins to compromise confidence, clarity, or creative steadiness.
We begin with an initial one-hour consultation, where we look carefully at how you are actually living and working right now. Not only what you are preparing for, but how sustainable your current way of working feels — in your body, your voice, and your mind. Time is taken to understand the pressures you are under, as well as the internal dialogue that can emerge when doubt, anxiety, or self-sabotage begins to creep in.
This process often brings clarity far beyond the voice alone. Artists frequently begin to understand more clearly who they are, what they want, and how they wish to move through their work. Confidence grows not through performance or reassurance, but through strengthened self-trust, discernment, and a clearer sense of direction. Limiting assumptions are gently challenged, ambition becomes safer to hold, and decision-making feels more grounded and intentional.
Ongoing work is shaped around you as a whole artist. Vocal technique — including breath, stamina, flexibility, maintenance, and recovery — is held alongside the equally important work of mental steadiness, judgement, and self-trust. Together, these support a more grounded way of working, particularly when external noise or pressure begins to overwhelm.
Physical care is treated with the same seriousness. Hydration, rest, daily vocal routines, movement, and pacing are approached as professional necessities rather than optional extras. The aim is not to extract more output, but to support a way of working that reduces the risk of burnout, vocal fatigue, and overwhelm through attention, consistency, and care.
The work in practice
The consultancy responds directly to the realities of professional artistic life and may include:
Vocal development shaped around live performance, recording, and touring demands
Breath and breath control as the foundation of stamina, consistency, and resilience
Bespoke warm-up, maintenance, and recovery practices
Support for vocal reliability across rehearsal and performance cycles
Artistic presence and decision-making in performance contexts
Perspective, continuity, and steady support through periods of pressure, transition, or increased visibility
As vocal reliability and artistic judgement strengthen, confidence develops naturally — grounded in capability, self-trust, and clear artistic decision-making rather than external validation.
Working together
This work is offered one-to-one and is intentionally selective.
It begins with an initial consultation and may develop into either a short-term or longer-term consultancy structure, shaped around individual circumstances rather than a fixed or standardised model. The focus is on developing trust, healthy working practices — mentally and physically — and effective routines that can be sustained with care, consistency, and ease.
Who this work is for
This consultancy is for contemporary artists working across independent and professional music contexts who recognise that longevity, clarity, and self-care are not indulgences, but foundational.
