Voice, Presence & Artistry (VPA) is a one-day intensive built for organisations investing in the development of emerging contemporary vocal artists, led by vocal and artistic consultant Jennifer John.
Voice, Presence & Artistry supports emerging contemporary vocal artists by providing the practical skills, artistic insight and professional confidence to help build sustainable careers in today's music industry.
Led by vocal and artistic consultant Jennifer John, the intensive combines practical vocal and artistic development with peer learning.
Jennifer’s approach is founded on the belief that the mind and body are inextricably linked. The voice is not separate from the artist’s identity, emotions or creativity. This approach helps artists develop vocal consistency, make confident creative choices, communicate effectively in performance and work with greater artistic control. Jennifer’s work is grounded in contemporary vocal practice and informed by decades of experience across performance, recording, touring, artist development and music education.
With a maximum of eight people per session, participants work consistently on singing exercises, physical awareness and audience connection.
The sessions focus on how the voice functions technically in practice, developing breath control, stamina and vocal flexibility alongside song interpretation and delivery. As understanding deepens around how the body responds in performance, clarity grows around what an audience sees and experiences.
Breathing and breath control sit at the centre of the work, supporting vocal technique, focus, confidence and artistic control. As awareness develops, so does the ability to perform with greater consistency and intention.
We have worked with Jennifer for many years across multiple strands of Liverpool Philharmonic’s Learning Programme. Jennifer has provided invaluable expertise and exceptional technical skill in all our collaborations.
She has worked with young singers across our Youth Company ensembles and has a clear talent for helping them grow in confidence, develop their artistry and improve their performance skills.
Her vocal leadership and artistic guidance are strong, supportive and inspiring, and she brings real knowledge of what is needed to build a career in the commercial music industry. We have seen the positive impact of her work first-hand, with our singers becoming more confident, capable and motivated.
Jennifer is also a local industry expert and highly respected in her field. As a guest industry expert at our annual Music Industry Careers Fest, she offered insightful, relevant and accurate guidance about the industry landscape.

Commission Voice, Presence & Artistry
Voice, Presence & Artistry is commissioned by organisations investing in the development of emerging contemporary vocal artists. Each one-day intensive is tailored to the needs of the organisation and its artist cohort, and delivered in person by Jennifer John.
Launch Year Commissioning Fee (2026–2027): £1,695
For up to eight participants, plus agreed travel and accommodation where applicable.
